I Started Building an App Because My Memory Is That Bad (1)

I forget what I did an hour ago. So I'm building an app where I dump things casually and it tells me when I ask. This is where it starts.

I have a terrible memory, so I started building an app, if only for myself.

I can't remember what I did a moment ago. Yesterday is a blur too.

You might say, just write it down. But that turns out to be work. Writing things down is work, and if I can't find what I wrote, writing it down was pointless anyway. At this point I think it's fair to call it serious.

The questions I keep asking

When did I last get a haircut? When did the dog last go to the groomer? There was something I had to do next week. What was it?

I wanted quick answers to these. Ask, and the answer is right there.

So here's the app I have in mind

I toss in what I did, or what I'm doing on some day next month, as loosely as I like, and it just tells me when I need it. That's really all I want. I don't want to organize anything. I want the app to do that part.

I honestly don't know yet whether anyone else needs this. But it would be very useful to me, so I started with the thought that at least I'd get good use out of it.

About this series

This post is about the starting point, why I began building it at all. From the next one on, I'll write down how it actually comes together, step by step.

Do you also have those moments where you stop and think, "wait, when did I do that?" I have a few of them every single day.
